Scooters Are Not Just For Kids Anymore

In Europe scooters have been quite popular over the past twenty years. Over here in the States, we would not have considered even thinking about using them until the latest gas crunch that is striking the country.

On my way to work I have been seeing more and more of these on the roadways. Recently I decided to do some checking online for prices, gas mileage, etc on scooters. All of the top motorcycle companies make these. For the most part they are all automatic with very small gas tanks.

The most popular scooter out there right now is the 2007 Yamaha Vino Classic. The Vino Classic has been around for years. The 2007's can also be purchased now for much cheaper prices than the 2008's.

Some useful statistics on the Vino are as follows:

  • 115 miles per gallon
  • Top speed 90 kilometers per hour (56 mph)
  • Automatic
  • Electric Starter

All of these combined make the scooter a great choice for transportation needs where you do not have to carry large loads.

An important issue of note is that they can be quite dangerous in heavily populated areas and roadways. In South Florida they can be especially dangerous with the elderly drivers. There is also the issue of the larger SUV's on the roadways that might have difficulty seeing drivers on scooters during the night time.
